Keeping us safe on Halloween and Bonfire Night

With Halloween and Bonfire Night around the corner, the seasonal crackdown on crime and anti-social behaviour has begun in Sutton. Sutton’s police operations and activities over this busy period will focus on keeping the borough safe whilst deterring and targeting individuals and groups intent on committing crime and anti-social behaviour. Officers from Sutton’s Safer Neighbourhoods Teams, Safer Transport Teams and Safer Parks Teams, will be patrolling during the day and late at night in town centres, parks and open spaces, and outside transport hubs like train stations and bus stops and on bus routes.

Detective Chief Inspector Partnership Alan Chambers, who runs the community based policing in the borough, said officers would be on duty to help make sure that everyone can enjoy the festivities and stay safe. But he had a tough message for the very small minority of people who may be tempted to commit crime and engage in anti-social behaviour: “You will face the consequences – you will be charged and brought before the courts.”

In addition, police urge youngsters to be aware of the possible impact of ‘trick or treating’ on some residents, particularly the elderly and vulnerable, and to respect signs that say ‘no trick or treating’

The Police operations and activities during this busy period are based on experience from previous years and working closely with partners like Sutton Council. Since the start of the Autumn school term, officers across the borough have been giving advice to schoolchildren about how to stay safe.
